Letter from the Head
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning is now entering the second century of planning education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. We are proud of our long tradition of planning education and research. We continue to be one of very few institutions that offer both PAB-accredited Bachelors and Masters degrees in urban planning, as well as a highly successful Ph.D. degree program. The most recent Planetizen survey ranked our MUP program 3rd nationally and Best in the Midwest. And our faculty are engaged in a wide variety of research and outreach activities.
At the heart of our degree programs are our students. Our current students are talented, creative, and diverse, and they are the ones who make this an exciting place to be. Our many successful alumni — our former students — continue to contribute to our program in countless ways. And we are always eager to meet with prospective students and show them our facilities and the campus of our world-renowned university. Whether you are already here on campus, are just a virtual visitor to the website, or are planning a visit to see us in Temple Buell Hall, we welcome you!
