For the benefit of those within the U of I Planning
Department as well as other who wish to have more information
it, below are a compilation of the most frequently asked questions
about SPO. It is by no means complete, but does contain a few common
head-scratchers. If you have a question you'd like answered, or answers
you for which you need questions, just ask one of the officers.
Q: What
is "SPO"?
A: "SPO" is an acronym for "Student
Planning Organization",
an association consisting of and operated by students in the Department
of Urban and Regional Planning
at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Q: Am I a member of SPO?
A: If you are a student currently enrolled
in the program of study leading to one of the following degrees
at the University of Illinois then you are
automatically a member of the Student Planning Organization:
- Bachelor of Arts in Urban and Regional Planning
- Master of Urban Planning
- Ph.D. in Urban Planning
Q: What are SPO's goals/mission?
A: SPO's primary goal to promote communication among department
staff, faculty and students, as well as planning professionals,
but also, more specifically:
- To promote interest in and understanding
of the professional field of Urban and Regional Planning.
- To provide a forum for intellectual and social interchange among
students studying Urban Planning.
- To act as the official
spokesperson for students in
the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and the Graduate Program
in Urban Planning in all matters pertaining to inter-university,
intra-university, student-staff,
and student-professional relationships.
- To promote fellowship between Urban Planning students and the
staff of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning.
